May 5, 2024

Come join us Sunday May 5, 2024 for our first AKC Fetch Trial! We will run two concurrent trials— a dog can be entered in both trials and title in one day—we are offering both Novice and Intermediate levels (for dogs who have already obtained the Novice title) and CGC and Trick Dog testing is available as well.  In addition to flat qualifying ribbons we’ll have rosettes and prizes for all titles.

AKC Fetch is designed for all breeds and this trial is OPEN to all breeds and dogs with AKC ILP/PAL numbers— everyone is welcome and all events will be held outdoor in fenced areas.  AKC Fetch is a pass-fail noncompetitive test. The four levels of titles (Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Retriever) assess the ability of the dog to retrieve.  In the Advanced and Retriever levels, the dog must respond correctly to signals and there is also a memory component in Advanced and Retriever because a retrieving bumper or ball is dropped (or thrown) behind a blind where it cannot be seen.  Since this is a new program and dogs have to test at each level, we are only offering the first two levels this time, but may opt to offer all four levels at a later date.

For each of the four titles, the dog must pass the test twice under two different approved AKC Fetch judges.

Below are the four test level titles offered in the program:

  • Novice – the dog earns the FTN (Fetch Novice)
  • Intermediate – the dog earns the FTI (Fetch Intermediate)
  • Advanced – the dog earns the FTA (Fetch Advanced)
  • Retriever – the dog earns the FTR (Fetch Retriever)

More information and videos are available on AKC at https://www.akc.org/fetch/videos/

Pre-entries will open Thursday February 15, 2024 and day of trial entries will be available as well for $5 more per entry.   The premium is up on AKC: http://tinyurl.com/Dfwlrcfetch -- online entries are accepted with credit card payment (and a small processing fee) or forms may be printed and mailed with a check to the address in the premium.  Due to limited parking and the response we’ve already received, we will be planning three sessions and you will be assigned a 1-hour time slot to test in.  We know it may be getting warmer this time of year and hope to be efficient and see lots of wagging tails and happy exhibitors.
